🍰 Fuzz Bakes a Cake

It was the day before Cola's birthday, and Fuzz had a secret plan. "I'm going to bake her a cake," he said, putting on a chef's hat that fell right over his big sideways ears.

He found the recipe book. "Step one: flour." He tipped the bag. Poof! A big white cloud filled the kitchen. When it cleared, Fuzz was completely white, except for his pink tongue, which was sticking out as usual.

"Step two: eggs." He rolled an egg across the table very carefully. It wobbled. It wobbled more. It rolled right off the edge and landed in his chef's hat. "That counts," he said.

"Step three: stir." He stirred so fast that the mixture flew up and stuck to the ceiling. Splat! A blob dripped down onto his nose. He licked it. "Mmm, tasty."

Just then, Cola walked in. She looked at the white kitchen, the sticky ceiling and the floury cat in the floppy hat. Her blue eyes went very wide. "Fuzz," she said, "what are you doing?"

Fuzz's ears drooped. "I wanted to make you a birthday surprise," he said. "But it all went wrong."

Cola started to laugh, a happy, tinkly laugh. "This is the funniest surprise ever," she said. "Let's bake it together." So they did. Cola read the recipe, and Fuzz did the stirring, slowly this time.

The cake came out lopsided, with a fish drawn on top in icing. It was the best cake either of them had ever tasted. And the kitchen? They cleaned it together too, with lots of giggles and a big happy meow.
