Sir Fluffington's Fancy Hat

Sir Fluffington was a very grand Persian cat with very long fur, and he believed that a very grand cat needed a very grand hat.
So he ordered the tallest hat in the shop. It was purple, with a gold ribbon and a giant feather on top. When he put it on, he was so tall that he had to duck to get through the door.
"Magnificent," said Sir Fluffington, admiring himself in the mirror. He went for a walk in the park, nose in the air. Everyone stared. Some people giggled.
Then a gust of wind came. The hat wobbled. The feather waved. And whoosh! The hat flew off his head, did a somersault in the air and landed on a sleeping dog.
The dog woke up wearing a tall purple hat. He looked very surprised. He wagged his tail and trotted off, looking extremely pleased with himself.
"My hat!" cried Sir Fluffington, chasing after him. The dog ran past the pond. A duck quacked and splashed. The hat fell off the dog and landed on the duck. The duck paddled away proudly.
Finally, the hat floated to shore, soaking wet. Sir Fluffington picked it up. It was soggy, the feather was droopy and the ribbon was tangled. A little bird hopped inside and started to build a nest.
Sir Fluffington sighed, then smiled. "Well," he said, "it seems my hat was meant for everyone." He left it for the bird, and from then on, he wore a small, sensible bow tie. It never flew away once.
