🧹 The Spring Cleaning Surprise

When spring arrived, the Whiskerby family decided it was time for spring cleaning. They opened all the windows, and fresh air and birdsong poured into the house.

Mum dusted the shelves. Dad swept the floors. The children washed the windows until they sparkled. And Pickle the cat... supervised, from the top of the fridge.

"Pickle, you could help," said little Ellie. Pickle thought about it. Then she jumped down and started to help in her own way. She chased the dust bunnies. She batted the feather duster. She sat in the mop bucket. That last one was a mistake. Splash!

"Oh, Pickle," laughed Ellie, drying her with a towel. Then they moved the big old sofa, which hadn't been moved for years. Behind it was a little pile of very interesting things.

There was Dad's lost watch. There was Ellie's favorite hair clip. There were three toy mice, a shiny button and a crumpled photo of Pickle as a tiny kitten, sitting in a teacup.

"So that's where all our things went!" said Mum, looking at Pickle. Pickle looked at the ceiling as if she had no idea what anybody was talking about.

They put the photo in a frame. Dad put on his watch. Ellie clipped her clip into her hair. And Pickle got her three toy mice back, which made her very happy.

That night, the house smelled clean and fresh, the windows let in the moonlight, and Pickle fell asleep in a sunny-smelling laundry basket, purring with her toy mice all around her.
