Spring was coming, and Shirin the kitten's family was getting ready for Nowruz, the New Day, a celebration of spring and the new year.

"First, we clean the whole house," said her mother. Everyone dusted and swept and washed the windows until the house sparkled. Shirin helped by chasing every dust bunny she could find.

Then Grandma showed Shirin a little dish of wheat seeds. "We water these every day," she said, "and they will grow into green grass, called sabzeh. It means new life." Shirin watched the seeds every morning. Soon tiny green shoots appeared, then a soft carpet of grass, like a mini meadow.

On the special day, the family set a beautiful table. There was the green sabzeh, painted eggs, red apples, a mirror, candles, a bowl with a little goldfish and sweet treats. The goldfish blew a bubble and swam in a happy circle.

"Each thing has a meaning," said Grandma. "The eggs are for new beginnings. The mirror is for looking back on the year. The apples are for good health."

Then, at the exact moment when the new year began, everyone hugged and said, "Happy Nowruz!" The family gave each other little gifts. Shirin got a tiny bell for her collar, and it jingled whenever she ran.

Friends and neighbors came to visit, bringing sweets and good wishes. The house was full of laughter, music and the smell of delicious food. Outside, the birds were singing, as if they were celebrating too.

That night, Shirin curled up next to the green sabzeh and purred. "Happy New Day," she whispered. Spring was here, and everything felt fresh and new.
