Spring had arrived at Meadow Farm. The flowers were opening, the sun was warmer, and the birds were singing from every tree.

Ginger the farm cat was sunbathing by the pond when she heard a tiny "peep." Then another. "Peep, peep, peep!" She opened one eye.

Seven fluffy yellow ducklings were standing in a row, looking at her. "Are you our mother?" asked the smallest one. Ginger sat up. "Oh, no, little one. I'm a cat. Your mother is a duck."

"But we can't find her," said the ducklings. "We followed a butterfly and got lost." Their little eyes filled with worry.

"Don't worry," said Ginger. "I'll help you find her." She stood up, and the ducklings lined up behind her. Ginger walked along the pond. Seven ducklings waddled behind, peep, peep, peep.

They walked past the rabbits, who giggled at the strange parade. They walked past the cows, who mooed in surprise. Finally, behind the tall reeds, they heard a loud and worried "Quack! Quack!"

It was Mother Duck! The ducklings ran to her, flapping their tiny wings. Mother Duck hugged them all with her wings. "Thank you, kind cat," she quacked. Then she led them into the pond, and they all paddled away. Splash!

Ginger went back to her sunny spot, feeling warm inside and out. "Spring," she purred, "is a good time for new friends."
