"Today," announced Professor Paws, "is Opposite Day! Whatever I say, you do the opposite." The kittens looked at each other and grinned.

"Stand up!" said Professor Paws. All the kittens sat down. "Good!" he said. "Be quiet!" The kittens all shouted, "MEOW!" Professor Paws covered his ears and laughed.

"Now, let's learn some opposites," he said. He held up a big ball and a tiny marble. "This is big, and this is..." "Small!" shouted the kittens.

He switched on a lamp. "Light!" Then he switched it off. "Dark!" said the kittens. He opened the window. "Open!" He closed it. "Closed!"

They went outside. Professor Paws climbed up a ladder. "Up!" Then he climbed back down. "Down!" A kitten named Bubbles climbed into a box. "In!" Then she popped out. "Out!"

They found opposites everywhere. A hot cup of cocoa and a cold ice cube. A fast rabbit and a slow tortoise. A loud dog barking and a quiet butterfly landing on a flower. A wet puddle and a dry stone.

"Who can think of more?" asked Professor Paws. "Happy and sad!" said Bubbles. "Day and night!" said another kitten. "Awake and asleep!" said the smallest kitten, who then yawned a very big yawn.

At the end of the day, Professor Paws said, "Goodbye, everyone!" And all the kittens said, "Hello!" Then they laughed, because Opposite Day was the most fun day of all. Or, as they said, the most boring day ever!
