Pepper's Rainbow Basket

Pepper the kitten wanted to make a present for her grandma, who loved colors. "I'll bring her one thing of every color in the rainbow," Pepper decided.
First, red. She found a ladybug on a leaf. "Can I borrow your color?" she asked. The ladybug laughed. "You can look at it! That's the best way to borrow a color." So Pepper picked a red berry from the bush instead.
Orange was easy: a marigold flower by the gate. Yellow was a fallen dandelion. Green was a clover leaf with four leaves, which made Pepper hop with delight.
Blue was harder. She looked up at the sky. "I can't carry the sky," she sighed. Then a bluebird flew past and dropped a tiny blue feather right at her paws. "Thank you!" Pepper called.
Purple was a sprig of lavender that smelled sweet and sleepy. Pepper put everything in a little basket and carried it all the way to Grandma's house, trotting as fast as she could.
"Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple," she said, laying each one out on the table. "A rainbow, just for you."
Grandma purred so loudly that the teacups rattled. "What a clever, kind kitten you are," she said. And she put the colors in a jar on her windowsill, where they glowed in the sunshine all week long.
