Bruno was a big, fluffy cat. Pip was a small, skinny kitten. They lived in the same house, and they were always comparing.

"I'm big," said Bruno, "so I can reach the top of the bookshelf." He stretched up and touched it with his paw. "I'm small," said Pip, "so I can fit under the sofa." And she wriggled underneath, all the way in.

"I'm heavy," said Bruno, "so I make a big dent in the cushion." He flopped down. Whump! "I'm light," said Pip, "so I can sit on a pile of leaves without squashing it." She sat on the leaves, gently as a feather.

"My meow is loud," said Bruno. "MEOW!" The windows rattled. "My meow is quiet," said Pip. "mew." It was so quiet that a mouse had to lean in to hear it.

"I'm long," said Bruno, stretching out across the whole rug. "I'm short," said Pip, standing next to him. She only reached his middle.

Then one day, the ball rolled under the fridge. Bruno was too big to reach it. Pip was too small to push it out. "Hmm," they said.

So Pip crawled under the fridge and tapped the ball toward the edge, and Bruno reached in with his long paw and scooped it out. "We did it!" they cheered.

"Big is good," said Bruno. "And small is good," said Pip. "But big and small together is best!" They shared the ball, and a nap, and a purr that was both big and small at the same time.
