The Rainbow Morning

All night long, the rain drummed on the roof. In the morning, Juniper the cat stepped outside and gasped. The whole garden sparkled. Every leaf wore little drops of water like diamonds.
Juniper walked carefully, shaking each paw after every step. Shake, shake. Step. Shake, shake. Step. She looked a bit like she was dancing.
The birds were having a party in the puddles. A robin splashed in a little pool, fluffing his feathers and flicking water everywhere. "Morning, Juniper!" he chirped. "The bath is lovely today!"
"No, thank you," said Juniper politely. "I prefer to wash with my tongue."
Then she saw it. Across the sky stretched a giant arch of colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. "What is it?" she whispered. "A rainbow," said the robin. "It comes when the sun shines through the raindrops."
Juniper sat down on the wet step, even though it made her bottom damp. She looked at the rainbow until it slowly faded away, like a dream after waking up.
"Will it come back?" she asked. "Oh yes," said the robin. "Whenever there's rain and sunshine together." Juniper smiled. From that day on, she didn't mind rainy days quite so much.
