Sprinkles and the Slow Friend

Sprinkles was a speedy little cat. She zoomed up the stairs. She zipped across the garden. She raced the leaves when the wind blew.
One day, in the corner of the garden, she found a tortoise munching on a dandelion. "Hello! I'm Sprinkles! Do you want to race?"
The tortoise looked up very slowly. "Hello," he said, very slowly. "I'm... Basil." It took him a long time to say it.
Sprinkles bounced around him. "Let's play chase! Let's climb a tree! Let's jump over the flowerbed!" Basil blinked. "I don't do... zooming," he said.
Sprinkles felt a little disappointed. Then she had an idea. "What do you like to do?" she asked. Basil smiled. "I like to... notice things."
So Sprinkles lay down next to Basil and noticed things. She noticed a ladybug climbing a blade of grass. She noticed a spider web sparkling with dewdrops. She noticed a bird singing a song she had never heard before, because she was usually running too fast to hear it.
"Wow," whispered Sprinkles. "The garden is full of secrets." "Only for those... who go slow," said Basil.
After that, Sprinkles still zoomed and zipped most of the day. But every afternoon she visited Basil, and they went slowly together, noticing all the little wonders of the garden. She even purred slowly, just for him.
