Luna Paints the Night

Luna was a black cat with a white tip on her tail, and she had a secret. Every night, when everyone was asleep, her tail tip turned into a paintbrush.
She would climb up the garden wall, over the rooftop, and onto the highest cloud. The sky was a big dark-blue page, waiting for her.
With a swish, she painted a star. Then another, and another. Some were big and bright. Some were tiny and twinkly. She made a star shaped like a fish, just for fun.
One night, the wind blew in from the north and puffed a big grey cloud right across her painting. "Oh no," said Luna. "Now nobody can see my stars."
She thought for a moment. Then she painted a silver edge all around the cloud, so it shone like it was wearing a glowing coat. Beside the cloud, she painted a smiling moon, peeking out.
Down below, a little girl woke up and looked out of her window. She saw the silver cloud and the peeking moon and the star shaped like a fish. She smiled and whispered, "It's beautiful."
Luna heard her, and her heart did a happy flip. She tiptoed back over the roof and down the wall, curled up in her basket, and gave a big, paint-splattered yawn.
In the morning, her tail tip was just white again. But if you ever see a star shaped like a fish, you'll know who painted it.
