🥞 Pancake's Very Long Stretch

Every morning, Pancake the cat did a stretch. Not a small stretch. A very, very, very long stretch.

First she stretched her front paws out in front of her, so far that they reached the edge of the rug. Then she pushed her bottom up into the air, with her tail pointing at the ceiling like a flagpole. Then she let out an enormous yawn.

But this morning, something silly happened. Pancake stretched so long that her front paws reached the kitchen door. Her back paws were still in the living room.

"Goodness," said the goldfish, swimming in a circle. "You're the longest cat I have ever seen." Bloop, went a bubble from his mouth.

Pancake kept stretching. Her paws reached the hallway. Her nose reached the front door. Her tail stayed curled around the sofa leg. The family's dog walked past and had to step over her twelve times.

"Pancake," said the dog. "How will you get back?" Pancake thought about it. "Like a rubber band," she said.

And she let go. Boing! She zoomed back across the hallway, through the kitchen, over the rug, and landed in her basket in a perfect round ball, just like a pancake.

"Ahh," she said with a happy purr. "Now I'm ready for breakfast." The goldfish blinked. The dog blinked. And Pancake did a tiny stretch, just to be safe.
