The Firefly Night Light

Ollie the kitten liked the dark, mostly. But on this night the moon was hiding, and his room felt extra dark. "I wish I had a little light," he said quietly.
Tap, tap, tap. Something was knocking very gently on the window. Ollie peeked out. A tiny green-gold light was blinking on and off. Blink. Blink. Blink.
"Hello," said the light. "I'm Flicker. I'm a firefly. I heard you wanted a night light." Ollie opened the window just a crack, and Flicker zipped inside.
Flicker flew around the room, showing Ollie all the things that were there. "Look, there's your toy mouse. There's your water bowl. And that big shape? It's just your coat on the hook."
Ollie giggled. "It looked like a giant with a hat." "In the dark, things can look funny," said Flicker. "But they're still just your things."
Flicker landed on the edge of Ollie's basket and glowed softly. Blink. Blink. Blink. It was slow and steady, like a heartbeat. Outside, the crickets sang a quiet song.
"Will you stay until I fall asleep?" asked Ollie. "Of course," said Flicker. Ollie curled his tail over his nose and watched the little light. Blink. Blink. His eyes grew heavy. He gave a tiny yawn.
When Ollie was fast asleep, Flicker smiled and flew out of the window to light the way for other sleepy little ones. And Ollie dreamed of glowing green stars.
