Oscar was the museum cat. When the visitors went home and the lights went low, he went on his evening walk through the great halls.

His paws pattered softly on the marble floors. First, he visited the dinosaur hall. The giant skeleton of a long-necked dinosaur stretched up toward the ceiling. "Good evening, Mrs. Dino," said Oscar, as he always did.

Next was the hall of paintings. There were pictures of the sea, the mountains, flowers in vases and one of a lady with a mysterious smile. Oscar's favorite was a painting of a cat asleep by a fireplace. It looked very comfortable.

Then came the room of old treasures. Golden crowns, ancient bowls and tiny clay statues of cats from thousands of years ago. "Hello, great-great-great-great-grandcats," whispered Oscar, and he bowed.

In the space room, there was a real rock from the moon in a glass case, and a model of the planets hanging from the ceiling. Oscar watched them turn slowly, round and round the bright sun in the middle.

Finally, he reached the music room. There was an old piano by the window. Oscar hopped up and walked across the keys. Plink, plonk, plink! It wasn't exactly a song, but the night guard, Mr. Ramos, clapped anyway.

"Bravo, Oscar," he chuckled, and gave him a scratch behind the ears. Oscar purred. Every night, he explored the whole world, all without leaving his museum.

Then he curled up on the bench in front of his favorite painting, the cat by the fireplace, and fell asleep, dreaming of dinosaurs and moon rocks and crowns of gold.
